FAQ
What is Studio Visit Magazine?
Studio Visit is a series of juried artist books produced by the publishers of New American Paintings. We are pleased to offer artists an effective venue through which to introduce their work to a serious national audience of art world professionals. The publication presents all two- and three- dimensional media. This includes mixed media, painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture. Each high quality volume of Studio Visit features approximately 150 artists, who have been selected by professional curators.
Studio Visit is received by 2,000 carefully selected curators and gallerists throughout the country as well as a growing base of collectors and art enthusiasts.
Why does it cost money to have your work published in SVM?
Studio Visit works a bit differently than most art publications. We do not sell subscriptions, nor is it sold on newsstands. Studio Visit is distributed completely free of charge to a list of about 2,000 galleries and collectors all over the country, all of whom have specifically requested to receive them (which means that they reach a very targeted group of active art collectors). Since it is distributed for free, the fee to cover artists spreads is necessary for the cost of production—without it, Studio Visit could not be made.
Is participating in Studio Visit Magazine worth the cost?
Yes, we view Studio Visit Magazine as a highly targeted and effective marketing material for artists. In traditional mail marketing, if an artist were to print 2,000 postcards, the total of printing costs ($250), plus mail list purchasing ($150), and postage (2,000 x 51 cents = $1,020), the total cost comes to about $1,420, as opposed to the $245 cost of a one page spread in SVM.
Where as postcards are often discarded, we cut down the waste and increase visibility by bringing together exciting artists in a museum-quality book that reaches the hands of museum curators, gallerists, and collectors, all of whom are interested in discovering new art.
I was selected for the magazine. Do I have to publish the same image I applied with?
No, you are not required to submit the same piece with which you entered the competition. You may publish whatever you would like.
What are the image requirements for publishing?
You can prepare your images for print by using our Image Requirements page as a guideline.
